Collaborative Design Group provided architectural and structural engineering design for the development of this Trader Joe’s store, one of the nation’s most popular gourmet grocery chain.  The project was constructed on a 1.2 acre site in St. Paul’s Highland Park Neighborhood.

Working with the developer, Collaborative Design Group provided plans for the 14,000 sf. grocery store with underground parking. The site also contains a separate 5,500 sf. retail building with a coffee shop.

The design maximizes the visual and pedestrian orientation to street edges by using the building edges, low walls, fencing and landscaping. The building engages the corner of Randolph & Lexington with a pedestrian-scale pergola and plaza transition, which provides a good balance between pedestrians and vehicles.  CDG designed the buildings to fit with the massing and context of the surrounding neighborhood.
