The 370,000 sf urban high school was developed through a highly interactive design process involving curriculum planners, school staff, residents, and the architectural team. The school has three major components: the academic houses; a public wing, which includes the library, Great Hall, multicultural resource center, and administration area; and an athletic wing with two gymnasiums and a swimming pool. The four academic houses, comprised of smaller learning spaces, are organized around exterior courtyards and interior atriums that afford natural lighting and attractive views. The Great Hall, which serves the entire community, combines a theater/auditorium with student dining facilities, including indoor and outdoor terraces.
