The Como Park Conservatory, inspired by London’s Crystal Palace, is one of the few remaining Victorian greenhouses in this country. Restoration of this 65,000 sf building, on the National Register of Historic Structures, has been accomplished in several phases. The entire glazing system on both North and South houses and the Main Palm House was removed and replaced with a new skylight system complete with curved, laminated safety glass. The cluster of old growing and hoop houses behind the Conservatory was removed and replaced with a completely new 30,000 sf support facility, including garages, potting areas, a cooler and growing houses. This project was completed in 1993. In 2002, Collaborative Design Group was again retained for consulting services.
